Writer Kristin Kaye - Kristin Kaye’s work has been seen on stage, in print, CD-ROM and online. Her deep commitment to forests and trees has led her to write extensively about anything tree-related, from big tree climbing arborists and conservation forestry to her recently completed novel about our connection to forested landscapes, To Catch What Falls. Other work includes her book Iron Maidens: The Celebration of the Most Awesome Female in the World and Authenticity is Now: A working definition of the fluid state of being as it applies to business and design for which she was the editor.

Sarah Deumling – Zena Forest - The Deumling family has managed Zena Forest since 1987. The Zena Forest is one of the largest remaining examples of the unique Willamette Valley upland forest ecosystem consisting primarily of Oregon White Oak and Douglas Fir but also Big Leaf Maple, Madrone, Oregon Ash, Grand Fir and several other minor tree species. Located in the Eola Hills just northwest of Salem, the forest is owned by the Deumling family and managed under a permanent conservation easement for both conservation values and commercial forestry. Deumling son Ben runs a small sawmill on site to add value to otherwise little used hardwood species, especially Oregon White Oak. Our hope is to demonstrate that, over the long term, ecological and economic health are one and the same for our family and the community in which we live.

Pam & Peter Hayes & Hyla Woods - Pam and Peter Hayes are “owned by” and care for the three working forests in the Oregon Coast Range that make up Hyla Woods.  Building on a multi -generational commitment to local forests and forestry, they aim to dispel the common belief that it is impossible to grow a forest that is both ecologically complex and economically viable. They work in cooperation with many community partners toward the goal of working with nature to grow thriving forests and terrific wood.

Matthew Stadler & Publication Studio - Writer, editor, and publisher Matthew Stadler is the former literary editor of Nest Magazine and co-founder of Clear Cut Press. Matthew founded and runs Portland-based Publication Studio with Patricia No. Publication Studio is an experiment in sustainable publication. They print and bind books on demand, creating original work with artists and writers they admire, books that both respond to the conversation of the moment and can endure. They attend to the social life of the book, cultivating a public that cares and is engaged. Publication Studio is a laboratory for publication in its fullest sense — not just the production of books, but the production of a public.

Good Food Promoter Blake Van Roekel - Blake is the co-founder of the successful and popular Art+Palate Supper Club and in November 2008, she launched her company, Keuken, in order to officially cook up a storm. Many of her menus are inspired by art and design, literature and music resulting in meals that are thematic and unique to the time and place of the event. Blake’s goal is to introduce greater levels of meaning to the food on our plates by not only stimulating our taste buds, but our emotions and intellect as well.

  • Words from a Duff diner

"A million thank you’s do not seem enough to really convey the lusciousness of the evening I spent partaking in the magic of the Duff Dinner. I mean really.…my love of nature, my love of writing and words, my hunger for positive examples of how to move forward on this planet in spite of all the obstacles and seeming hopelessness – and then there was the amazing food..."
